How in the world did trunker treating become so popular. It seamed like every church parking lot in Utah was doing trunker treating instead of good ‘ol fashioned tricker or treating. My doorbell range only 2 times last night! I still have a whole bucket of candy because no one showed up.
What happened to encouraging our kids to approach a strange house ring the door bell and ask a complete stranger for candy. This teaching our children great social skills. The have to talk, smile and humor the old folks. They even learn to say thank you and be respectful. These little pip squeeks hardly even let out a thank you as they took 3 steps from trunk to trunk with only lolly pops twirling in their eyes. They truly are little zombies gathering all the candy with such little effort. Safety! Ba-humbug! It is just as safe to walk and wait at the side walk while your kids run to the door. My kids will be walking from house to house. You can count on that. They’ll need to work for that candy!
I couldn’t agree with you more about trunk-or-treating. I liked to good old days better, too. (And I am a mom who cares about safety!) I did participate at our ward trunk or treat but it just didn’t give me the thrill of opening the door to new trick-or-treaters every few minutes. Ahh, the good old days.
PS My sound isn’t working so I couldn’t get the full joy out of the milking movie.
I’m glad my mom saw this because we had this exact conversation a couple days after halloween. It really is sad. I just loved the thought of you, Clay, sitting by your door…probably dressed up, with a bucket of water or something ready to throw at kids, and yet all night only 2 little kids come a long.
While kids may think they are smart going trunk or treating, I submit that the SMART kids go trick or treating. They know that everyone else is trunk or treating and so if they can find those few houses waiting for trick or treaters…they will get a pillow-case-full in one quick stop. Now that’s smart and efficient!
You know its funny becuase you are exactly right! I didn’t have a bucket of water but Russ was here dressed up as a big gorilla. And you are also right about giving those two kids tons of candy. They really scored big with me. Anyway, I’m glad you appreciate where I’m coming from.
That is so true. Where has all the fun gone from going door to door to trick or treat. Something needs to change with that.
That is stupid, why not take your kids trick or treating? its like parents think there are rapist at every house, thats why you stand at the end of the driveway parents or like 1 house back that what my parents did
